Despite seeing Fifa coins their side lose, the home fans enjoyed the occasion and gave the new stadium their endorsement. Resident in the suburb of Paraiso, Marcelo and his daughter Olivia travelled to Itaquera on the metro and bought tickets for seats close to the pitch. What made the occasion even more special for Olivia was the fact that it was the first time she had ever gone to see a match.
“She’s the most fanatical Corinthians fan of all of us at home and this is her first game, right here in a new stadium,” said her father, munching on popcorn before the kick-off. “We’ve got a great view and we’re loving it.”
Wanderley and Antonia, who live in Tatuape, also used public transport to get to the stadium and made sure they arrived early.
